We all love scary movies. We also know that October is when civilians join us in our favorite pastime because we see their social media posts and “spoopy” lists go up. So it was only a matter of time before someone did the Lord’s work of figuring out which horror movies are the most popular in the United States. This is how we discovered the Top 5 Halloween movies nationwide today courtesy of Yahoo News via Preply.
5. Terrifier (2016)
Where You Can Watch: Peacock, Plex, Prime Video, The Roku Channel, Tubi, and Vudu
A woman becomes the subject of a sadistic clown’s obsession one bloody Halloween night. Because Art the Clown has become so popular, we’re not surprised this Dread Central icon is on the list.
4. Silent Hill (2006)
Where You Can Watch: Peacock
A woman ends up in Silent Hill while looking for her daughter. This movie is easily one of the best video game adaptations I have ever seen. I love that other people appreciate it as much as I do.

3. Clue (1985)
Where You Can Watch: Prime Video
Six guests attend a dinner party that ends in murder in this adaptation of the popular board game. Easily one of the best whodunnits to ever exist. I’m also happy it’s on the list because I’m always reminding people it belongs somewhere under the horror umbrella.
2. Halloween (1978)
Where You Can Watch: Crackle, Plex, and Redbox
Michael Myers escapes from an asylum to return to his hometown and finish the murder spree he started fifteen years earlier. This is arguably John Carpenter’s best movie. I say that as a stan account for The Thing and after becoming an even bigger fan of him as a person because I attended his interview at New York City Comic Con. If this movie had not been on the list, I would’ve asked to speak to a manager.
1. It (2017)
Where You Can Watch: Max
A group of bullied and neglected kids must fight a shape-shifting evil that preys on children. This installment was so good that it hurt. I’ve been loving all of the attention it has been getting these last few years. Having it in the top spot makes me feel like America is finally doing something right.
