Wondering if Borderlands will become a hit or flop? Here are our box office predictions for the movie.
How much is Borderlands predicted to make at the box office?
Borderlands is reportedly expected to make between $10 million and $20 million on opening weekend.
Box Office Pro revealed these numbers stating that the early reviews of the film were negative and that test screenings were poorly received. Moreover, this grim situation regarding Borderlands’ reviews was also reportedly revealed by reputed industry insider Daniel Richtman via his Patreon. In his Patreon, Richtman revealed that early reviewers of the movie only had negative opinions about it, when he asked them how they felt.
On the other hand, Media Predict has also revealed a box office number of $18.4 million, which is in the range predicted by Box Office Pro.
Will Borderlands flop or succeed?
Borderlands could very likely become a flop.
As mentioned above, the film is reportedly getting negative reviews from early viewers. Thus, this negative word of mouth could likely make a lot of people, especially fans of the Borderlands video game series, not go and see this movie in theaters, negatively affecting its box office prospects.
Moreover, the film’s PG-13 rating, which has already disappointed many fans, would become a big turn-off for those expecting a more mature tone. This would convince them not to go and see the movie, further negatively affecting the film’s box office.
However, since this film features notable star talent like Kevin Hart, Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jack Black, there is some sliver of hope that their involvement could bring out a significant number of fans to the theaters and help the film do decently, if not incredibly well at the box office.
Additionally, Eli Roth’s (best known for his work in the horror genre) involvement as the writer and director of the movie, could bring in his dedicated fanbase to the theaters and help positively shift the movie’s financial prospects further.
