Dua Lipa has opened up about how some artists ruthlessly share their personal lives in their songs as a way to “attract people’s attention”.
During a recent interview with journalist Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes, the ‘Levitating’ singer shared that her songs – which touch on themes such as female empowerment and heartbreak – do not showcase her private life.
“It’s something that I just naturally hold back,” she told Cooper. “Some people are just so ruthless with their own private life that they decide to put it all out in a song because they know that it’s going to attract people’s attention.”
She continued: “For me, it was always important to make music that people really loved, not because I was putting someone on blast or not because I’m doing it for clickbait at someone else’s expense.”
Fans took to X/Twitter to share their opinions on Lipa’s statement with one user writing: “I get her though like sometimes people just want to listen to feel-good music and not songs thats too emotional and personal 🫶🫶.”
Another user shared: “I’ve enjoyed a lot of her music. Sounds like her ambition is in the right place.”
Some Taylor Swift fans interpreted the statement as a hit at the ‘Bejeweled’ singer. “Yah I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that this was a thinly veiled, albeit harmless, shot at Taylor Swift.”
Another fan shared: “Most good artists put their private lives and emotions into songs.
Doing vacuous pop music without meaning is pretty boring.”
Lipa’s most recent release was 2024’s ‘Radical Optimism‘. In a three-star review of the LP, NME shared: “She’s since referred to that key group of collaborators as ‘the band’, highlighting a shared cohesiveness and understanding of the mood. Swooning opener ‘End Of An Era’ demonstrates that well, and ‘Anything For Love’, featuring studio chatter from the crew, suggests this album has been made with care and, you can tell, a lot of fun.”
In other news, the pop singer recently announced additional new dates in the UK, Europe, Australia and North America to her 2025 ‘Radical Optimism’ world tour.
