Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Ryan Scott Anderson are officially divorced after two and a half years of marriage. They wed in July 2022 when Gypsy was still behind bars and split in March 2024, just three months after she was released. So, what happened when the big day in court finally arrived? Keep reading for more details.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard Officially Divorced
This divorce seems to have been a long time coming but, in reality, it has not been all that long. Gypsy Rose Blanchard fell in love with Ryan Scott Anderson when she was serving a decade-long sentence. She was behind bars for the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard and Ryan started writing her in 2020. Admittedly, he was a good distraction during the pandemic. She had previously been engaged to Ken Urker but that ended in 2019 yet she always held him in her heart. Two years after Gypsy and Ryan began speaking, they wed and the following year, she was released early.
He was there to pick her up when she got out in December 2023 but things quickly went downhill. Gypsy felt Ryan was too controlling and eventually, the marriage was not working. Therefore, her stepmother, Kristy helped Gypsy pack up and move home. Soon enough, she and Ken reunited and were expecting a baby. Even though Gypsy had filed for divorce, Ryan would be listed on the birth certificate because they were still married. The divorce was supposed to be finalized in October but that did not happen until today, December 9th.
According to People, Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Ryan Scott Anderson finalized their divorce eight months after she first filed. Ryan was not present but Gypsy has offered her ex-husband closure:
“I did extend the offer to have a civil conversation for closure purposes. I’m currently waiting on a response. He waived his right to attend [the court date].”
Financially, everything has been settled, per Gypsy yet she admits she realized it could never have worked out. She had a realization after their blowout in March 2024 that there was no going back. Then, Gypsy saw this was not what she wanted:
“It was kind of like my first shock of holy crap. I’m married. It’s kind of like, okay, well, you know that you’re settling — that you’re kind of pushing on to just do what everybody else does in life, but you’re just settling.”
A New Chapter
Though Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Ken Urker have taken a paternity test and confirmed he is the father, Ryan Scott Anderson may still be on the birth certificate. Here is what Louisiana state law says:
“If the mother is married to someone other than the biological father when the child was conceived or has been divorced for less than 300 days at the time of birth, the husband/ex-husband shall be the presumed father, unless paternity is established for the biological father.”
It was a NIPP so it was a non-invasive paternity test and they will be divorced for less than 300 days so that is a gray area. Gypsy did provide proof that Ken is the dad and they celebrated a baby shower for their daughter, Aurora recently. They do not have any plans to get married just yet as she is still on parole and cannot live together. Now, everyone can move on with their lives.
