Andrew Koji & Noah Centineo Detail Grueling 6-Week Training

Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo have been pushed to their limits for the upcoming Street Fighter. Koji and Centineo recently opened up about the grueling six-week training session they had to undergo for the action-comedy movie. It is scheduled to hit theaters on October 16, 2026.

Directed by Kitao Sukarai, the movie is based on the popular fighting video game franchise Street Fighter. Andrew Koji, who plays Ryu in the movie, said he wasn’t very good at Street Fighter as a child. He told Empire, “I wasn’t very good at the game growing up. I was a button-basher. I found it really hard. But being an Asian dude growing up in the West, I’d always play as Ryu because he was the one that was like me.”

To accurately portray Ryu, the British actor had to undergo extensive training and study martial arts. Koji added, “My task was to try and bring as much depth and nuance as possible. Ryu’s fighting style is more karate, so I was training and studying Shotokan karate as well as judo, jujitsu, and kickboxing.”

Noah Centineo, who is portraying Ken Masters, added, “For the physical side, me, Andrew and Callina trained together every day, six days a week, for six weeks straight. I felt like I had something to prove.”

Reflecting on how they geared up for the film, the 30-year-old stated, “I think a lot of us did, as we were given an opportunity with this movie to step up into a position we had never been in before. So I think we all felt that responsibility.”

Alongside Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo, the cast also features several renowned names. Jason Momoa portrays Blanka, while 50 Cent comes in as Balrog. Alongside them, the ensemble includes Olivier Richters, David Dastmalchian, Eric André, Andrew Schulz, Mel Jarnson, Rayna Scandinavian, Vidyut Jammwal, Cody Rhodes, Callina Liang, and others.

The logline of Street Fighter, per The Numbers, reads, “In 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu and Ken Masters are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”

The Paramount Pictures project will be produced by Cale Boyter, Stefan Makhoul, Takayuki Nakayama, and Mary Parent. Momoa is also contributing to the Street Fighter movie as a producer. Jay Ashenfelter, Jonathan Hook, Haruhiro Tsujimoto, and Kenzo Tsujimoto are the executive producers.
