Billie Eilish went for an all-black look on the Met Gala red carpet like many other guests, opting for a custom Simone Rocha sheer dress worn with an Agent Provocateur corset. But for the night’s after parties, she wore colorful New York Knicks merch. (A fitting look for the home team!) The singer was photographed flashing a peace sign on her way to the Standard Hotel’s after-party and then inside the fête in the new outfit.
Eilish paired a LỰU ĐẠN jacket with a New York Knicks hat, a 2001-02 New York Knicks Houston #20 champion jersey (Eilish was born in December 2001, making the jersey’s year extra special), North Face pants, and Air Jordan sneakers.
She spoke to Emma Chamberlain on Vogue’s red carpet livestream about the inspiration behind her black Met Gala dress, an outfit that went viral. “This is Simone Rocha, my girl,” Eilish started, revealing the designer behind the ensemble. “It’s cute. I wanted to do layers, lots of textures, lots of fabrics, materials, like, I wanted things hanging, I wanted to be just kind of thrown and like kind of messed up.”
Regarding the Met Gala itself and any red carpet nerves she had before it, “I’ve been pretty chill all day,” Eilish said. It’s the process of getting there that actually gives her the most anxiety: “Like this line [to get here], is kind of freaking me out,” she said. “The line is longer than the event, 100 percent.”
Despite attending two other Met Galas and co-chairing her first one, Eilish admits that she is no expert on the event. “I look forward to seeing friends [inside],” Eilish told Chamberlain. “I really don’t know how to do this.”
