For Tommy Dorfman, time travel is as easy as slipping into a string bikini. On July 11, Dorfman revived a classic 2000s color palette when she hit the beach in a blue-and-brown triangle bikini top and cheeky bottoms by Lisa Says Gah. “Beach waves,” Dorfman wrote beside Instagram photos of herself sunbathing in the sand. Seeing the color combo alone was enough to send us back to the days of “Blue Crush” and “Aquamarine” (see: Sara Paxton’s entire wardrobe in the 2006 film).
The bikini in question is from the brand’s Emma Mulholland On Holiday collection and features a hibiscus flower print scattered with smiley faces. Best of all, the versatile top, which featured strappy ties along the neck and back, can be worn upside-down — a trend we’ve spotted recently on celebrities like Kylie Jenner. For her repose in the sunshine, Dorfman chose to wear the bikini top as intended, showing off the handful of tattoos along her arms, shoulders, and collarbones.
In a series of photos from her day on the beach, Dorfman further showed off the swimsuit’s versatility by posting snapshots of herself reading under a cabana, lounging on a towel, and posing in front of the water. She styled the barely-there outfit with a pair of silver-rimmed sunglasses and delicate jewelry, including a gold bracelet.
While celebrities have recently been giving their stamp of approval to the one-piece swimsuit — Sofía Vergara, Jennifer Lopez, and Lori Harvey among them — Dorfman’s retro ensemble is a reminder that the bikini is a summer staple for a reason.
