Christina Ricci admitted that she absolutely hates her role in 1995’s Casper. It wasn’t that she hated the film or anything, she specifically hates her acting in it. Recently, Ricci went back to watch her performance in The Addams Family for her upcoming role in Tim Burton’s Wednesday and it reminded her of how much she dislikes her role in Casper specifically.
“If you actually watch ‘Casper,’ I’m terrible in it,” Ricci admitted. “People get so upset when I say that. Because I’m like, ‘No, it’s a wonderful movie.’ Because it’s a childhood treasure to people. But I am terrible in it.”
Ricci admitted all this on WTF with Marc Maron. The entire episode is one that is spent getting into her past and how difficult it was growing up while also being a child actress.
“I was thirteen, there was a lot going on in my life. Everything was very difficult.” Ricci said. “I was just always annoyed, and I just don’t think I tried very hard, to tell you the truth. Embarrassingly, I have to say, I don’t think I tried as hard as maybe I should have.”
The synopsis for Wednesday goes like this:
Wednesday is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting 16-year-old Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Season One will follow Wednesday as she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the murder mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.
Ricci sounds very excited about working with Tim Burton on Wednesday. This wouldn’t be her first time working with Burton. She also worked with him on Sleepy Hallow alongside Johnny Depp. Ricci also admits that Jenna Ortega is fantastic in her role as Wednesday.
