Sony Entertainment and HBO Max have combined to bring the heartwrenching and brutal tale of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us. The incredible two games in the franchise are beyond belief and already very cinematic experiences as is. However, HBO is now putting it together for new fans to dig through along with hardcore fans alike. I’m certain like all other adaptations this one will take liberties from the storyline of the games. At least enough to give gamers something new from the world.
Last night HBO’s teaser trailer for upcoming films and series’ shine the light on a lot of things coming to HBO in the next year and through 2023. I was excited to already see Barry and Tokyo Vice coming back to the platform. They also revealed a short peek at The Last of Us.
The Last of Us teaser is a quick one, but it reveals Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and the huge desolate landscape that we are used to seeing in the games. We quickly get a shot of Joel running with a young girl in his arms. We are scared to death that the prologue is the same prologue from the game. It looks like a similar situation. If it is, I hope they filmed it near Austin, TX near the location of the game’s intro and that I don’t have to cry like a child all over again. But if they do keep that prologue in place I hope they don’t back down from the brutality.
One of the coolest parts about casting is that both voice actors from the game have roles in the series as well. That is both Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson. It will be interesting to see what parts to play!
I love that we are able to talk about all that without even mentioning the clickers (aka the fungi paraisite-based zombie baddies) the drama in the games was always that good too. Even without the apocalypse around them, the humanity in the story keeps you from looking away.
The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal , Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna, Storm Reid, Anna Torv, Jeffrey Pierce, Nick Offerman, Merle Dandridge, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett and Con O’Neil!
