A Pennsylvania man is in police custody and stands accused of killing his neighbor with a chainsaw. Police reports suggest the accused killer was wearing a mask similar to that which is worn by Ghostface, the antagonist in the Scream films.
30-year-old Zak Moyer has been charged with criminal homicide in the death of his 59-year-old neighbor, Edward Whitehead Jr. When authorities arrived on the scene, they found that the victim had been stabbed, in addition to being attacked with a battery-operated chainsaw. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, WFMZ reports.
Moyer reportedly escaped Whitehead Jr.’s home after the violent ordeal and took refuge at a neighboring residence. After officers surrounded the dwelling and demanded Moyer exit the premises, the suspect began writing notes to authorities. TN.Com reports that one note to the police accused the victim of being guilty of crimes against women and children. But Leigh Valley Live reports that authorities are not investigating said claims.
The NY Post reports that Moyer’s sister has suggested the suspect mentioned killing Whitehead Jr. the week before he allegedly donned a Ghostface mask and mortally wounded his neighbor.
Moyer is currently in custody at Carbon County Correctional Facility where he is being held without bail.
WNEP reports that authorities returned to the scene the day after the murder when they received a complaint that Zak Moyer’s father, Francis Moyer, was harassing the victim’s family. The elder Moyer was taken into custody on harassment charges.
