Netflix celebrated another Geeked Week last week. As usual, they pulled out all the stops and previewed tons of excitingly chaotic titles. However, the one that caught our eye was Damsel. What at first seemed like another ordinary Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things, Enola Holmes) vehicle on the streamer quickly took a turn involving dragons.
While almost nothing is known about the title slated to debut in 2024, we’re here for the survival thriller vibes. We do not get nearly enough fire-breathing dragons in that subgenre, so this movie has our attention. The synopsis and trailer make us think this will be a journey. Do not just take our word for it. See for yourself below.
Per the official synopsis via Netflix,
A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive.
Watch the official teaser below:
Damsel is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. The script was penned by Dan Mazeau. The cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, Angela Bassett, Robin Wright, Ray Winstone, Nick Robinson, Brooke Carter, and Shohreh Aghdashloo.
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo describes the film as “a very intense journey that I was so excited to design and to develop.” He told TUDUM, “At the core, this is such a beautiful story about a young woman becoming a strong, independent, and empowered adult. Elodie doesn’t have any kind of support. It’s a real survival experience.”
They had me at dragons and survival. I will also follow Angela Bassett to the end of the world. So, I will be one of the first people hitting play when the Netflix original drops. Let me know if you are as curious as I am about this title at @misssharai.
