A mysterious and cryptic tweet from the Scream Twitter account all but confirms that we’re getting a new trailer next week.
In a recent tweet from the official Scream account, they shared a BeReal image (which consists of both a selfie and a front-facing photo) of the cast and crew. The caption? “Looks like we have a spill. Clean up on aisle 1 and 19. Gonna need a mop AND body bag.” While this isn’t outright telling us the trailer is dropping on 1/19, or January 19th, the notoriously mischievous marketing of the franchise makes it feel extremely likely. When a fan responded to the tweet “January 19th??? Is that the date of the trailer release?”, the official account simply replied, “What are you a detective? I don’t like detectives.”
Check out the tweet below:
The photo shows Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, who play Tara and Sam Carpenter, respectively, as well as directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, and writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. The cute bodega selfie really leans into the Scream VI setting moving from Woodsboro to the Big Apple, from Ortega using a mini Statue of Liberty as a phone to Barrera holding the classic I Heart NY logo mug.
Scream VI follows the survivors of the previous film, Sam, Tara, Mindy (Jasmin Savoy-Brown), and Chad (Mason Gooding) as they move to New York City for a fresh start. But, they quickly find out that Ghostface has followed them to their new home.
The teaser trailer, which dropped last month, gave us a taste of the big city terror that awaits our heroes. As they sit on a packed train full of people in Halloween costumes, they see Ghostface slowly moving toward them. New York City is a big playground for Ghostface, and we can’t wait to see Scream in a massive city.
Scream writer Kevin Williamson told SyFy Wire earlier this week, “[The film] doesn’t feel like ‘Part 6,’ it feels like you’re watching this big, huge, fresh reinvention.”
Scream VI comes to theaters on March 10th, 2023.
