Stephen King has had a busy year. Between the release of the novel Holly, an adaptation of The Boogeyman, a prequel to Pet Sematary, and news of future adaptations to come (I am desperately anticipating The Life of Chuck), fans will have plenty more Stephen King on the horizon. King himself, however, is also a fan, and for the duration of 2023, he’s been spotlighting, recommending, and discovering exciting new horror and genre projects, sharing his thoughts online. Here, we’ll be taking a look back at all the movies and television Stephen King recommended this year.
Plane
Stephen King is just like me. Yes, I was excited to watch the ridiculous Gerard Butler movie Plane as soon as it was announced. It’s validating to hear King liked it too.
The Night Agent
In April, Stephen King joined the chorus of streaming fans everywhere when he praised the “ridiculously entertaining” The Night Agent on Netflix.
Evil Dead Rise
Stephen King, like the rest of us, loved Evil Dead Rise.
The Lesson
In July, King highlighted this British Chiller starring Richard E. Grant.
Curse of the Demon
In October, King directed fans toward an unmissable, demonic classic.
Ghost Story
In November, King directed fans toward Peter Straub’s novel Ghost Story. While he specifically suggested the novel, I’m here to remind you the movie adaptation is better than you might remember.
The Stand
In November, Stephen King rightly called director Mick Garris a genius when spotlighting The Stand, an adaptation of his own work.
American Fiction
This month, King recommended American Fiction, one of the funniest movies of the year.
