“Stranger Things” has become a phenomenon, and with that come sky-high expectations…ones the series rarely fulfills.
Sifting through all of the hate (personally, I thought “Stranger Things 5” was a dumpster fire, but I loved the series finale), I came across this hilarious bit from the animated “Teen Titans Go!” that took a jab at Netflix’s series “before it was cool,” joked @SZapper85.
I was not on the “Stranger Things” bandwagon until the second season, and even then, “Teen Titans Go!” was throwing shade at the faux nostalgia in the Duffer bros.’ series.
Here’s the clip in which the Titans (Robin, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy and Cyborg) are watching a show called “Unusual Stuff” that carries a warning: “Nostalgia is not a substitute for an actual story.”
Ironically, nostalgia truly was the glue holding the series together; once it was abandoned in the fifth and final season, the show lost its charm and became a slog.
