The #1 thriller on Prime Video (both in the US and globally) should not come as a surprise. After all, the internet has been drinking this title up since it hit theaters. It only makes sense fans would take a victory lap on the dance floor with it during the holiday season. We have all gone to Saltburn this December, and most of us will go again. I am ridiculously happy to explain why this vacation spot is so popular to the uninitiated.
In the film,
“Struggling to find his place at Oxford University, student Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family’s sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten.”
Saltburn was written and directed by Emerald Fennell. The film stars Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Alison Oliver, Archie Madekwe, and Carey Mulligan.
In my review of the film from the 2023 London Film Festival, I wrote,
Emerald Fennell has crafted an absurdly funny, dangerous, seductive world where everyone is more than they seem. Saltburn is everything we assumed it would be but also somehow more than we ever could’ve dreamed. It defies expectations and refuses to settle for a simple indictment of the rich because that would be too easy.
While we all knew Twitter would be extra thirsty for the Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi film, people are noticing that Rosamund Pike’s performance is the gift that keeps on giving. In no small part, because her character is a welcome respite between gagworthy scenes.
See what Twitter is saying about this divisive title:
Saltburn is the most fun I had in a theater this year. So, I am happy it is finally on Prime Video, where a larger audience can also experience all the facecracks, drama, and nostalgia-inducing soundtrack. It is a cute little weird gem with an iconic ensemble, and I plan to tell your kids this was Knives Out.
I wish I could tell you I am not shimmying to Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s “Murder On The Dance Floor” while writing this. However, there is no point in lying to you this late in the year. If you are also losing the fight to not make Saltburn your new personality, we should chat at @misssharai.
