Wonder Woman 1984 star Chris Pine offered a positive message for the future of the Star Trek franchise. This comes more than two months after it was officially confirmed that the new leadership of Paramount Pictures had decided to reboot the Star Trek film franchise, effectively moving on from the J.J. Abrams movies.
What was Chris Pine’s Star Trek advice?
During a recent interview with Variety, when asked if he had any advice for the new Paramount Pictures bosses about Star Trek, Pine just gave a brief message, wishing them good luck for the future.
“Advice? Have fun, good luck, live long and prosper,” he said.
In Abrams’ Star Trek franchise, Pine portrayed the role of Captain James T. Kirk, who was famously played by William Shatner in the original movies. Pine played the fan-favorite character in three movies, including 2009’s Star Trek, 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, and 2016’s Star Trek Beyond. The film franchise has a combined gross of over $1 billion at the global box office.
Besides Pine, all three movies were also led by Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldaña as Nyota Uhura, Karl Urban as Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu, Simon Pegg as Scotty, and the late Anton Yelchin as Ensign Pavel Chekov. They were originally set to return for a fourth installment, which was in development hell for a decade. Before the project was ultimately canceled, WandaVision director Matt Shakman was initially attached as its director at some point in the movie’s development process.
The studio’s next Star Trek movie will be written and directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who are known for their work on 2018’s Game Night and 2023’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Further details about its plot and characters are still under wraps, but it has been confirmed that the story won’t be connected to any previous or current television series, movie, or prior movie development projects.
