Warner Bros. TV Group chairman and CEO Channing Dungey has revealed a brand new update regarding the current production status of its upcoming Harry Potter HBO TV Show, which is expected to last for multiple seasons. At the moment, the studio doesn’t have a target date for the project’s filming start.
What did Warner Bros. say about the Harry Potter HBO TV show?
During a recent appearance at MIPCOM, Dungey confirmed that the upcoming series adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series is still being written, with casting calls for Harry, Hermione, and Ron currently underway in the U.K. and Ireland. She also assured Harry Potter fans that the TV show will be more “in-depth” compared to the blockbuster film franchise.
“There’s not a lot to talk about at this moment. We’ve got our fantastic writing staff in place and they are doing what they need to do,” Dungey said (via THR). “And casting calls have opened up in the U.K. and Ireland, so the process is moving along. It’s going quite well. It’s an unbelievable dream, honestly, and as somebody who is a huge fan of books, the opportunity to get to explore them in maybe a little bit more in-depth than you can in just a two-hour film, that’s the whole reason we’re on this journey.”
The Harry Potter series is described as a “decade-long” project, with each season expected to adapt one book in Rowling’s acclaimed book series. The HBO adaptation is being written by Emmy-winning-producer Francesca Gardiner (Killing Eve, Succession). The series is executive produced by Gardiner, Mark Mylod, Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and long-time Harry Potter franchise producer David Heyman. Mylod, who has worked with HBO on Games of Thrones and The Last of Us, will also helm multiple episodes. It is a production by HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television.
