Zombieland filmmaker Ruben Fleischer has entered negotiations to direct Lionsgate‘s upcoming The Sun Always Sets in the West movie. Further details about its plot and characters are still being kept under wraps.
Besides being known for his work on the Zombieland movies, Fleischer also directed two more high-profile movies for Sony Pictures in the form of 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage starring Tom Hardy, and 2022’s Uncharted starring Tom Holland. He is also recently helmed two episodes of St. Denis Medical series, which had just received a second season renewal from NBC.

The Sun Always Sets in the West is written by Scott Barkan and Gregg Zehentner. The film will be produced by Norman Aladjem, Ray Moheet and Tim Honigman through their Mainstay Entertainment banner. At the moment, the project has no cast and release date attached to it.
This marks Fleischer’s latest collaboration with the studio, after signing on to direct the highly-anticipated Now You See Me 3, which is currently in post-production. Fleischer is directing from a screenplay written by Eric Warren Singer, Seth Grahame-Smith and Michael Lesslie. Set to arrive in theaters on November 14, 2025, the latest installment will feature the return of Jesse Eisenberg as Danny Atlas, Mark Ruffalo as Dylan Rhodes, Woody Harrelson as Merritt McKinney, Dave Franco as Jack Wilder, Isla Fisher as Henley Reeves, Lizzy Caplan as Lula May, and more. The threequel will also introduced new characters, portrayed by Dominic Sessa, Justice Smith, Ariana Greenblatt, and Rosamund Pike.
