A secret Predator movie directed by Dan Trachtenberg is happening. It will be released before 2025’s Predator: Badlands.
Trachtenberg previously directed 2022’s Prey, which serves as a prequel to the other films in the Predator franchise. He’s currently working on Predator: Badlands, which was recently given a November 7, 2025, release date.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Studios’ Steve Asbell confirmed that there is another secret Predator movie directed by Trachtenberg that is currently in the works.
What did Steve Asbell say about the secret Predator movie?
“After Prey became a success, Dan [Trachtenberg] came back and said he didn’t want to do Prey 2. And we’re like, ‘What do you want to do?’ And he rattled off a bunch of ideas that were really crazy but really cool,” Asbell said. “We’ve actually done two of them. Two are coming out next year. One I can’t talk about yet, but the other one is the live-action Predator film with Elle Fanning that just wrapped in New Zealand. That’ll be out theatrically sometime next year.”
Asbell clarified that the other project he “can’t say anything about yet” is also a Predator movie directed by Trachtenberg. It will come out before Predator: Badlands, though it’s unclear whether or not it will be released theatrically.
The secret project seemingly won’t be an Alien vs. Predator film, as Asbell was asked about the matter later in the interview. While he said fans would “probably” get to see another crossover between the two franchises at some point, he noted that they “haven’t gotten to that point” yet, and that a project like that won’t be something that’s rushed.
Further plot details remain under wraps at this time.
Predator: Badlands, meanwhile, will star Elle Fanning. Asbell said the movie stems from an “absolutely bonkers idea.” He added, “It is a sci-fi thing, but it’s not what everybody thinks it is. And I mean, it’s awesome. It is so nuts. But in Dan, we trust.”
