Maury Povich has offered to “come out of retirement” in order to settle the potential kinship mystery between Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
In an interview with E! News promoting his new picture book Just Because, McConaughey was shown a video from Povich, whose recently-concluded daytime talk show Maury is perhaps best known for its recurring DNA test segment and the 84-year old host’s accompanying catchphrase “you are not the father.”
“I just heard about the possibilities,” Povich began. “Guess what? I would come out of retirement. We could do primetime, DNA: Maury’s Back With Woody and Matthew.” He then removed his hat and promised to “get my showtime color back in my hair” before concluding with “Woody’s got my number. I’m ready.”
McConaughey seemed game to the proposal, saying, “I don’t know if we’re going to be calling you to do it on your show but I like the way you’re thinking.”
In April, McConaughey revealed that he and Harrelson may be brothers after comments made by his mother about the former’s father. The two actors have been longtime friends and have shared the screen several times including for 1999’s EDtv and True Detective Season 1 in 2014.
The pair are next slated to co-star on the aptly-titled, AppleTV+ series, Brother From Another Mother, though a release date has not yet been released.
