At a ceremony on Sunday, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and members of Houston City Council celebrated Megan Thee Stallion’s philanthropic endeavors. She was awarded the key to the city, and Turner proclaimed that May 2 is officially Megan Thee Stallion Day. The day also happens to be Megan’s mother and grandmother’s birthday.
“Megan Thee Stallion has an extraordinary entertainment career, but we wanted to honor her for what she does offstage to lift people’s lives in underserved communities,” Turner said, according to ABC 11. “She assisted people after the 2021 winter storm, during the pandemic, and helped those struggling with homelessness. I look forward to watching her grow as an artist and humanitarian.”
In video of the ceremony, Megan can be seen speaking through tears as she gave remarks thanking Mayor Turner for the honor. “I really can’t believe I got my own key to my own city,” she said with a laugh. She also acknowledged the significance of the day falling on her mom and grandmother’s birthday.
