Billie Eilish was just 14 years old when she was catapulted to global fame following the release of her song “Ocean Eyes,” which her brother Finneas produced and the pair posted to the internet without a record deal.
Speaking on Monday’s episode of Lily Allen and Miquita Oliver’s podcast, Miss Me?, Billie said that she went through a phase of thinking that her team were her friends before realizing the harsh truth that they are only around because they’re on her payroll.
Billie also said that she would often find herself in romantic relationships where her partner was her only friend, so she would stay with that person longer than she probably should have because they were all she had.
In fact, the difference in Billie’s life is so apparent that when she went to a Coachella party earlier this year with a whole bunch of friends, her longtime security actually commented on the fact that there were other people with her because they weren’t used to it.
Speaking to British singer Lily, Billie also recalled how sad she’d feel when listening to her hit single “Smile” because she couldn’t relate to the lyric about friendship.
