FX Networks has announced its new soccer documentary series, Necaxa, and the reactions are already forthcoming in torrent. The series, produced by Eva Longoria and the team who made Welcome to Wrexham, will air on FXX starting August 7, while Hulu and HuluOnDisneyPlus start streaming. The documentary will go all the way inside and behind the scenes of Mexican soccer club Necaxa, turning in a mixture of sports drama and behind-the-scenes entertainment that was the success formula for Welcome to Wrexham.

The poster design is screaming passion and culture of the team, filled with fiery red, black, and white colors behind a bold illustration of an attacking Necaxa player. The well-known names of Eva Longoria, Ryan Reynolds, and Rob McElhenney only skyrocket their involvement as executive producers for this whole endeavor.
The club’s followers responded immediately to the announcement. One with so much emotion said: “HELL YEAH!!! Necaxa was my dad’s team.” Another recalled and reminisced about the glory days for the club, “I hope Necaxa returns to its former greatness like in the 90s. The team of the decade!”
But there was a little cynicism. There were a few who seemed to suspect the motives behind the project. One voiced: “They keep selling our best players and coaches: what’s the point of an investment group if they don’t build a competitive team?” Another player harshly, “Necaxa: the only team who doesn’t care about winning the league. Their goal is cheap buy, sell for profit, ignore fans.”
Then, one started joking, “The team of Don Ramón,” referring to a well-loved character from the classic sitcom El Chavo del-Ocho. Another mocked the schedule, “Please avoid matches on Saturday after lunch… nap time is sacred.”
On the lighter side, Longoria’s team got praise. “The boss lady in charge,” said one fan. “A Latina Eva with a Canadian Ryan? That’s a Hollywood first!” said another with excitement.
Beyond Mexico, international eyes were caught by the announcement as one asked, “When can we watch this in Germany?” Meanwhile, a Portland Timbers fan coyly remarked, “Officially Timbers canon now with the Brian Fernandez trade,” trying to link the documentary further to its own team’s history.
With answers ranging from nostalgic excitement to skeptical criticism, it becomes obvious that Necaxa has an ever-active fan base ready to embrace this new adventure. Will this documentary meet the expectations of die-hard fans, or will it be just another entertaining story for the general public? Of course, one thing that stays constant is that Eva Longoria and Ryan Reynolds really know how to make noise.
