Baker Grace is one of the most mature songwriters to have emerged in a very long time. Her newest release “State of Mind” not only shows her capabilities as a songwriter, but also as the unique vocalist she is. “State of Mind” celebrates the internal emotional struggle and having the sensibility that’s it’s alright to feel sad sometimes.
In her own words “State of Mind is about coming to terms with the fact that pain is a part of life. We all go through hard times in our life, and it can feel really lonely. It’s easy to want to get rid of sadness in the quickest way, possible or pretend the bad feelings don’t exist, but I think we should acknowledge and celebrate every emotion because it is all part of what makes us human and being human is a beautiful thing. I think I always felt like I wasn’t allowed to be sad, and my problems didn’t matter because I have been fortunate in life. At the same time, I have always struggled with a lot of self-doubt and my mental health. I realized the more I pushed down my feelings, the more they grew. My depression and anxiety became worse because I blame myself, and was ashamed of myself for having those feelings. Once I was able to accept them and learn how to deal with them, more love and more self-compassion, it was really freeing.”
Baker Grace writes songs that are always empowering. Her messages are human and stand up true to human nature. They are compelling and authentic and there is no doubt they come from the heart. Musically they are colored with the jungle of personal emotions and darker moments that highlight sweeter times. It’s not a matter of rosy cheeks or ruby red lips but rather the will and quality of the imagination. Her song becomes dyed with the color of its thoughts.
