Zendaya is opening up about the medical emergency she had on set of Dune: Part Two.
Speaking to W Magazine, the actor revealed she had a heatstroke from the “very hot” desert heat in Jordan after she stopped drinking water to avoid having to go to the bathroom.
“It was very hot,” Zendaya said. “And I remember thinking, Oh, man, the bathrooms are so far away, because we had to hike to the locations.”
She continued, “If you have to pee, you need at least 10 minutes to get out of the costumes. I was like, ‘Damn, I don’t want to drink too much water.’ I had such a fear of peeing myself or shitting myself, honestly, in the suit on set.”
“One day, I didn’t drink enough, and I had a heatstroke,” she said. “I felt so barfy. I remember calling my mom on the bathroom floor, saying, ‘I feel terrible.’ She was like, ‘Did you drink water today?’ I said no. I thought I was being smart, but you can’t do that. So, lesson learned.”
It’s not the first time Zendaya has gotten sick or hurt on set. She also injured herself while filming 2024’s Challengers.
She told Capital FM she was left with an ankle scar after scraping herself during a match scene. “It was from the scene where I fall onto the tennis court, and tennis courts hurt!” she said.
Recalling how she realized she’d been hurt, Zendaya said, “I was like, ‘Why is my sock bloody?’ and I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, just scraped some of my skin off.'”
Ouch! Be careful, Zendaya!
