Viewers have seen CBS News go through a number of changes, especially with Bari Weiss being installed as a new editor-in-chief. Recently, a few insiders have also weighed in on the situation. With one recent share, some insiders have tried to paint a picture of what could be happening behind the scenes at 60 Minutes.
Bari Weiss Was Installed As CBS News’ Editor-In-Chief Late Last Year
Weiss is a political commentator who was known for founding the media company, The Free Press, also known as Common Sense. In addition, she has worked for outlets including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
In late 2025, The Free Press was purchased by Paramount Skydance. Following this, Weiss was then installed as CBS News’ editor-in-chief.

Since then, viewers have seen a number of changes occur at the network. This has included Tony Dokoupil being made anchor of CBS Evening News.
In addition, the goings-on at 60 Minutes recently made headlines after a piece revolving around Venezuelan deportees from the Trump administration who were sent to an El Salvador prison, CECOT, was pulled. At the time, it was claimed the segment was pulled due to wanting a comment from the Trump administration. However, the piece ultimately aired without one.
Recently, an insider has weighed in on what could be going on at 60 Minutes. As they noted, the episode eventually covering the El Salvador prison also saw a significant ratings drop. The source shared, “Why she’s messing with 60 Minutes is beyond me – it’s literally the only show that rates at CBS.”
Insiders Felt That One Particular Name Leaving Would Signal The Start Of A New Era
Feeling it was one of the network’s top-rated shows, they felt, “That’s the one thing that’s not broken over at CBS News… Or at least it was the one thing before Weiss put her hands on it.”
One producer was also quoted as saying, “It’s a war zone. People are terrified, whispering about who’s next.”
Speaking with Radar Online, the sources suggested that various CBS staff could risk losing their job. This could include Sharyn Alfonsi, who criticized Weiss’ decision to pull the CECOT prison episode from its original airdate.
Other names listed included Scott Pelley and Anderson Cooper, who were said to be on “thin ice” with Weiss. However, one name in particular was said to signal the end of an era, with the beginning of a new one: Gayle King. They continued, “Once Gayle’s gone, the Bari era will be complete.”
