Blake Shelton has made a habit of writing killer duets with his wife, Gwen Stefani, in recent years. One of his biggest duets was with another The Voice coach, Christina Aguilera, from back when they were both coaches on the hit show. Even back then, they struck gold with their powerful duet.
Blake Shelton Has A Habit Of Writing Hit Duets
Blake Shelton is one of the biggest names in country music. His solo career has been booming for years. However, another facet of his successful run is his penchant for putting out powerful duets with iconic female singers.
Over the last few years, Blake Shelton has done that with his wife, Gwen Stefani. Years before that, those seeds were planted when Blake worked with another chart-topping singer who also happened to be a coach on The Voice at the time, Christina Aguilera.
Christina Aguilera Took A Country Detour With Help From Blake
From the time Christina Aguilera first broke out as a solo artist with Genie In A Bottle, she quickly made a name for herself with her poignant pop songs. The other thing she quickly became known for was her impressive vocals, as there is nothing out of her range musically.
Christina Aguilera is as comfortable singing catchy pop songs as she is pouring her heart out in ballads, and she had the voice to successfully pull off both. Not surprisingly, she took a bit of a country detour with her single, Just A Fool.
The powerful song is about dealing with the betrayal and heartache following a breakup. It has a distinct country lean to it, which only made it more fitting to have Blake sing on it.
Just A Fool Was A Groundbreaking Collaboration At The Time
Nowadays, it’s common for popular artists who don’t intersect musically to collaborate on a song together. One recent example is Blake Shelton and his wife, Gwen Stefani, on their newest duet, Purple Irises. Like Blake and Christina, Blake and Gwen don’t mesh on paper when it comes to their styles of music, and yet, they find a way to blend their influences into one cohesive track that fans love.
Another recent example that comes to mind is Enrique Iglesias working with Miranda Lambert on an English version of his song, Space in My Heart.
Christina Aguilera released Just A Fool on her 2012 album, Lotus. At the time, she said she loved the opportunity to work with her “big brother,” as she and Blake became like family from their time as coaches on The Voice. Blake even joked: “I had to put a clothespin on my nutsack just to hit some of these notes. Why did you make it so high?”
All these years later, that move paid off. Just A Fool stands the test of time, and in many ways, it paved the way for many artists to step outside of their genre and take a turn toward country music. When you want to do that, Blake is clearly the right man to call.
