The National Geographic series Life Below Zero has recently premiered its 23rd season. However, Chip Hailstone, who appears on the show with his wife Agnes, confirmed the most recent season might be its last. As nothing official has been announced about the fate of the show, fans are wondering what will happen next.
Living A Life Close To The Arctic Circle
Life Below Zero is a documentary series that revolves around subsistence hunters making a living in remote parts of Alaska. The series, which is produced by BBC Studios, airs on National Geographic. The series has even inspired a few spin-offs, Life Below Zero: Next Generation and Life Below Zero: First Alaskans.
Two people prominently featured in the series are couple Chip and Agnes Hailstone, who live with their seven children. Living in Noorvik, a few miles north of the Arctic Circle, Agnes is a Native Alaskan who the only member of the cast to have spent their entire life in the state.
Following the filming of the show’s 23rd season, however, Chip has shared that the most recent episode might be its last. On X, he wrote, “Well, folks, [it’s] official; Life Below Zero has run its course. No contract, No Life Below Zero. It was a fun 12 years and the show won 9 Emmy Awards, and we were on the first to the last episodes. Now onto a sharp and profitable future.”

As noted by Distractify, a fan responded to this claim, pointing out that a new season was about to come out. To follow up, Chip explained, “Our last season is coming out, Oct. 4. or so, we will not be making anymore. Never know, they occasionally revive shows from the grave, so there’s a small chance we will get resurrected…”
Nothing Official Has Been Said About The Show’s Fate
At this time, National Geographic has not confirmed that Life Below Zero has been canceled. Thanks to this, some fans believe there might still be hope for the series to be renewed.
On a Reddit page based around the show, a fan noted that the 23rd season won’t be available for streaming until March 19, while discussing who wouldn’t be returning to the show for the most recent season. Some fans began to share what Chip had posted, saying the newest season would be the show’s last.
A Reddit user identified as “Comprehensive-Pen644,” who some believed to be Chip, wrote that, “[I’m] in Anchorage and its true, Life Below Zero is out of contract. Finished up here and a day for whatever [tomorrow]. 9th Emmy award 2024, and the most watched Nat Geo show, so there you go. Might be that Disney went woke/broke.”
“I made the announcement on the one and only time I tried to use an Iphone to do such, Hell no, I [prefer] a laptop and the phone is for our business Hailstone Enterprizes, so at least it has a use. [I’m] not a cell phone kinda guy anyway. Thats how it go’s, and [don’t] worry, we are on the last seasons eps, at least 16 of them.”
