Platonic Season 2 Episode 7 Review: Unwanted Houseguests and Shocking Secrets

Benjamin Franklin once stated that “houseguests, like fish, begin to smell after three days.”

That old proverb certainly fit Will in Platonic Season 2 Episode 7 since he annoyed Sylvia and Charlie so much, and his actions began to disrupt their marriage.

Will grew too comfortable staying in their rental space, and Sylvia accommodated his needs more often than Charlie’s.

While the writers have done a fantastic job of keeping platonic boundaries between Will and Sylvia, their relationship remained messy and intense.

As Season 2 continued, it’s easy to understand why their partners felt threatened by their friendship.

I love it whenever Charlie and Will interact more. It allows Luke MacFarlane to flex his funny bone and let Charlie be less serious since he often has to be the serious and dependable one around Sylvia.

Will Has Overstayed His Welcome and Traumatized Sylvia’s Family

Will and Sylvia had a huge fight about seeing a UFO at the end of Platonic Season 1, so I knew as soon as Maeve saw a spaceship in their backyard, it was related to Will.

It resembled a massive beer keg and cups, and looked like Will and his latest conquest got trashed in the backyard and then snuck back in.

Frances and Simon looked impressed that “Uncle Will” bagged a hottie, not quite the impression their parents wanted.

Charlie couldn’t even have an everyday conversation since the kids were so distracted, and Sylvia was disgusted that her house looked like a fraternity house.

Will had gone from wanting a quality relationship to wanting to build a dating profile so that he could have sex again.

After all those months with Jenna, I understood, but he needed a place of his own first so that he wouldn’t scar Sylvia’s family.

EP Francesca Delbanco Guest-Stars as Will’s Realtor. Can We Keep Her?

EP Francesca Delbanco guest-starred as a local mom who ended up as Will’s realtor. Since she knew the characters so well, she vibed perfectly with Seth Rogen’s Will.

Their scenes were the most entertaining of the episode. She kept assuming things incorrectly, like he was an ex-con, probably because of how eager Sylvia was to get him off her couch and away from the kids.

It was comical when Sylvia saw Diane (Delbanco) hovering around her house and assumed she had come to visit her, not Will. Sylvia honestly thought Will wouldn’t sleep with one of her friends.

That man loves sex. Apparently, Sylvia wasn’t above using connections, no matter how disgusted she was.

Dianne played along too, even though she wanted to pretend Will was only a client. Hopefully, she appears again.

She and Will have a fun banter, and I want to see him in his new bar. It looked perfect for him.

This installment of Platonic showcased different sides of Sylvia and allowed Rose Byrne to showcase dramatic and humorous acting skills.

Sylvia nearly broke down in fear, thinking Charlie might end their marriage. She would have done anything to avoid that therapy session and might have sabotaged herself.

Will didn’t want to see her in his position, and it was hilarious watching her climb out the window of the van to try to get there in time, even if it didn’t work.

It was such a stark contrast from the badass control freak she was at work. She wouldn’t let those bitchy servers slack off and reminded them that she was the lawyer in charge.

Even though Will can be annoying, he always comes through for Sylvia, and he has connections.

I  loved watching how he maneuvered that massive van through those alleyways to get those chairs delivered.

While Katie’s mantra annoyed Sylvia, even Charlie’s co-workers listened to her and believed in if you don’t ask, you don’t get.

Will also knew the importance of connections. Sylvia landed another gig from a friend of Stewert’s, Carrie (Aidy Bryant).

They hit it off, and I can’t wait to see them interact more.

Charlie’s Secrets Surface at the Worst Time

Sylvia’s friends weren’t wrong. Most couples don’t go to therapy if everything’s going great. But it’s not always a catastrophe like an impending divorce, adding a threesome to the bedroom, or coming out.

Sometimes, people need help setting boundaries in their marriage or changing careers.

It sounded like Charlie’s been unhappy and stuck since he confided in Will in Platonic Season 2 Episode 5.

It’s not even all Will’s fault. Sure, it sucked that Sylvia always jumped to help Will and was always late when her husband needed her.

(Courtesy of Apple TV+)

But Will actually listened to Charlie vent and helped Sylvia realize her husband needed help.

I’m proud that Charlie told her he wouldn’t accept an apology from a chicken.

She should have worked harder to get to that therapy session on time, even if it meant leaving the party responsibilities in someone’s hands.

Sylvia isn’t good at giving up control or routines, which means she didn’t handle Charlie’s surprise retirement announcement well.

It played for entertainment and shock value well, but with three kids, the pay cut will be a considerable loss.

(Apple TV+/Screenshot)

It’s challenging to choose sides since it’s harsh to call Charlie’s idea reckless when he needs time to find a career that brings him joy.

These two will sink or swim since Sylvia needs Will even more to help her party planning business take off.

Over to you, Platonic fans. Has Will overstayed his welcome, or does Sylvia need him more than she thinks?
