The Today Show fans may have noticed that Hoda Kotb’s replacement, Craig Melvin, has been MIA. However, co-anchor Savannah Guthrie has been holding down the fort during his absence. Now, she teamed up with a surprising new female co-host instead of Craig.
Craig Melvin Left Savannah Guthrie A Spot To Fill
While The Today Show host Savannah Guthrie stayed behind to report from home, Craig Melvin was out of the office. Earlier in the week, Savannah had a co-anchor join her that is a fan-favorite on the show, Peter Alexander. Notably, Craig went to Milan, Italy, to scope out the Olympics for 2026. But on Galentine’s Day, Savannah got a treat to have a surprising female co-host at the desk after Craig left the spot open.

Savannah Guthrie Teams Up With Surprising Female Co-Host
Since The Today Show co-anchor Craig Melvin was out of town, Savannah Guthrie got a surprise Galentine. She was joined by NBC News Senior Legal Correspondent and co-anchor for Saturday Today Show, Laura Jarrett. Laura also filled in for Savannah last month, shortly after Hoda Kotb had exited.
Craig Melvin called to update everyone on his trip. Savannah Guthrie opened, “Laura, do you wanna help me say ‘bonjourno’ to Craig, who is in Milan?” Additionally, she noted, “One year from today, this is where the eyes of the world will be, Craig.” Furthermore, Craig announced that the events would officially be split between two cities for the first time in the history of the games. Notably, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, was forced to combine as one city ahead of the 1936 Winter Olympic Games. But Craig is excited to be on location in Italy as they prepare for the history-making event in 2026. Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo are the two cities preparing for next year’s events.
- One user said, “Boy, Craig Melvin has been sent to Italy already. NBC is so emotional. #Today.”
Terror Attack
But a fun morning took a fast turn. Sadly, while Savannah Guthrie and Laura Jarrett were reporting, breaking news came through that a car had plowed through a crowd in Munich, Germany. Both Savannah and Laura had the difficult job of relaying the information regarding the crash and suspected terror attack. The Today Show has kept fans up to date on the event that occurred at a global security conference. Many U.S. officials and foreign ministers are in attendance from around the world. Furthermore, the unfortunate attack comes with news of more than 28 people reporting injuries. However, the driver is in custody. Both Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are planning to attend the conference on Friday.
