“Isn’t that Wörmer’s signature?” Shudder has revealed the official US trailer for the Danish horror mystery sequel Nightwatch 2, known as Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever, from the same Danish filmmaker Ole Bornedal. Not to be confused with the two Russian movies Night Watch and Day Watch, this is not related – it’s a new sequel to Bornedal’s 1994 movie Nightwatch, which was remade into Nightwatch in 1997 with Ewan McGregor. The original also starred Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who has become considerably more famous after “Game of Thrones”. In this sequel, Martin’s daughter, Emma, takes up a night watch job to find out what happened to her parents almost thirty years ago. A meeting with Wörmer in his cell pulls the serial killer out of his coma and sets in motion a chain of fateful events. Starring Fanny Leander Bornedal, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Kim Bodnia, Sonja Richter, Ulf Pilgaard, Casper Kjær Jensen, Paprika Steen, and Nina Rask. Freaky!! This looks like a “Mindhunter-esque” update continuing this scary story.
Official US trailer (+ poster) for Ole Bornedal’s Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever, from YouTube:
22-year-old medical student Emma (Fanny Leander Bornedal) has just taken a job as the night watch in the same forensic department where her parents were once almost killed by the famed psychopathic police inspector Wörmer. The events led to her mother’s suicide, and her father Martin (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) has turned to tranquilizers to suppress the memories. Determined to investigate what exactly happened to them, Emma tracks down and confronts Wörmer, only to unintentionally reawaken his bloodthirst and ignite a violent revenge on everyone who sealed his destiny years ago. Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever, also known as Nattevagten – Dæmoner går i arv in Danish, is written and directed by the Danish filmmaker Ole Bornedal, director of the first Nightwatch film, I Am Dina, The Substitute, Just Another Love Story, Deliver Us from Evil, The Possession, Small Town Killers, The Way to Mandalay, and The Bombardment previously, plus some TV series along the way. Produced by Thomas Heinesen, Christel C.D. Karlsen, Signe Baasch. This initially premiered at the 2023 London Film Festival last year, and it opened in Denmark last December. Shudder debuts Ole Bornedal’s Nightwatch 2 streaming on Shudder starting May 17th, 2024.
