“I’m doing this film to prove I can act.” Republic Pictures via Paramount has unveiled an official trailer for an action comedy called Cassino in Ischia, arriving to watch in October on VOD directly. Which is a sign this ain’t going to be good. This meta action star concept sounds like a spin-off from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The next generation of action heroes push Nic Cassino off his perch. So he goes to Italy to work with struggling Italian directors on the first-ever “Neo-Realist” action movie trying to revitalize his career. But as they stumble through cultural clashes and a chaotic production, Nic’s comeback attempt spirals into a wacky journey of mishaps, reinvention, & unexpected discoveries. Dominic Purcell stars as Nic Cassino, and the cast includes Ugo Dighero, Miriam Candurro, Marcello Romolo, Carlotta Natoli, Fabio Avaro, Lucianna DeFalco, Simone Mazzella, and Alessia Santalucia. Ischia is an small island off the coast of Naples. This is all supposed to be humorous, but it looks just plain bad and exceptionally unfunny.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Frank Ciota’s film Cassino in Ischia, direct from YouTube:
Former box office king Nic Cassino (Dominic Purcell) finds himself overshadowed by a new generation of action stars. Determined to revive his career, he heads over to Italy instead, where he teams up with an eccentric, down-on-his-luck Italian director to create an artsy, groundbreaking action movie. But as they stumble through cultural clashes and a chaotic production, Nic’s comeback attempt spirals into a hilarious journey of mishaps, reinvention, and unexpected discoveries. Cassino in Ischia is a feature film directed by American writer / filmmaker Frank Ciota, director of the films The North End, Ciao America, and Stiffs previously. The screenplay is written by Joseph A Ciota. It’s produced by Barbara De Fina. Republic Pictures will debut Cassino in Ischia direct-to-VOD starting on October 1st, 2024 this fall.
