“Expectations are generally not good for your health.” Can Tuna Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie film called Birder, marking the feature directorial debut of actor / filmmaker Nate Dushku. This first premiered at the 2023 OutSouth Queer Film Festival in North Carolina recently, and it’s also playing at Out on Film, Seattle Queer Film Festival, and the San Antonio Q Fest. A bird watcher, Kristian Brooks invades a nude queer campground on a remote lake in New Hampshire. He wears whatever cover he needs to ensnare the locals in his dark fetish in this nightmarish erotic thriller. “Consent has never been more deadly,” is the tagline. This guy is creepy! Michael Emery stars as Kristian, who manipulates the “others to serve his dark fetish while blurring the line between protagonist and antagonist.” The film also stars David J. Cork, Cody Sloan, Jes Davis, Uki Pavlovic, Ryan Czerwonko, and Miles Crawford. This looks extremely provocative and edgy and explicit, certainly not for the faint of heart. Also – this trailer is definitely NSFW.
Here’s the festival promo trailer (+ poster) for Nate Dushku’s Birder, direct from YouTube:
Description via SQFF: “In this smart and erotic psychological thriller from alumni filmmaker Nate Dushku, we follow bird watcher Kristian Brooks (Michael Emery) as he invades a nude queer campground in New Hampshire, manipulating others to serve his dark fetish while blurring the line between protagonist and antagonist. For fans of Stranger By the Lake, Birder captivates and challenges its audience, bringing into conversation questions of consent and overt sexuality. Actor Michael Emery gives a complex and enigmatic lead performance that is equal parts sexy and terrifying, and the naturalistic setting and minimalistic filmmaking style only further serve this sophisticated and wildly adventurous narrative.” Birder is directed by actor / filmmaker Nate Dushku, his first narrative feature after the doc film Dear Albania previously. The screenplay is by Amnon Lourie. This initially premiered at the 2023 OutSouth Queer Film Festival, and it is still playing at more festivals this fall. No release date is set yet – stay tuned for more updates. Curious?
