“Terrified of the spotlight? These kids will show you what real bravery looks like.” Disney+ has unveiled an official trailer for Choir, a documentary series streaming later this month on their service. Looks like an uplifting & inspiring tale of how much of a difference passion & determination can make. Take centerstage and sing your heart out with Detroit Youth Choir. Even though this is just a series about this youth choir, it’s produced by Blumhouse (and Jason Blum) and Maniac Productions, plus Brian Grazer & Ron Howard. Lots of big names involved with this! But that’s because this group made an appearance on “America’s Got Talent.” A teacher, mentor and father figure in the heart of Detroit, Anthony has impacted and empowered more than 1000 kids through music for over two decades. His efforts captivated America in the rise to the finale of “America’s Got Talent” in 2019. This looks like it should be quite moving and entertaining to watch.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Disney+’s doc series Choir, direct from Disney+’s YouTube:
Choir is a 6-part documentary series following the kids of the Detroit Youth Choir as they prepare for the performance of a lifetime. Through their eyes we experience the highs & lows of life growing up in Detroit, navigating the challenges of balancing family, school, and athletics, all while pursuing their dreams of taking their talents to the next level and performing on one of the world’s biggest stages. Following their 2019 appearance on America’s Got Talent, it’s a pivotal time for the choir and its director, Anthony White, as he’s faced with the combined challenges of replacing several key members, keeping the choir relevant in Detroit, and finding the next big opportunity that will put them back in the national spotlight. Choir is a documentary series directed by the acclaimed doc filmmaker Rudy Valdez, director of the doc films The Sentence, Breakaway, Reopening Night, Carlos, and the series “We Are: The Brooklyn Saints” previously. Executive produced by Sara Bernstein, Jason Blum, Ross M. Dinerstein, Jeremy Gold, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Chris McCumber, Ryan Miller, Gretchen Palek, Michael Seitzman, Rudy Valdez, and Justin Wilkes. Disney debuts Choir streaming on Disney+ starting January 31st, 2024 coming soon. Who’s interested?
