“This was old school fraud.” Remember NFTs? Neither do we. People’s Television & Sequence Creative have revealed an official trailer for Minted, a new documentary film from filmmaker Nicholas Bruckman. This is a comprehensive look at the NFT craze – the rise & fall of this crypto meets digital art madness. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and is now available to watch via Independent Lens. Described as a smart look at the intersection of art, commerce, and digital ownership through the rise and crash of the NFT market. A renegade group of outsider artists are thrust into the global limelight when they embrace a powerful new technology, but they must reckon with controversies that will collapse the wild world of NFTs. Apparently it doesn’t shy away from the criticisms of NFTs – which in my opinion are entirely valid because it was just a gold rush fad that has already burned out. If you’re curious it looks like a a fascinating doc to watch anyway.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Nicholas Bruckman’s doc Minted, direct from YouTube:
When the artist known as Beeple shatters records by selling a digital artwork for $69 million, it ignites a global NFT phenomenon that transforms the lives of artists around the world—but they must reckon with the controversies that threaten to collapse this wild and controversial new frontier. Minted spans the entire arc of the NFT craze, from its explosive beginnings in 2021 to its dramatic crash in 2022. Bruckman doesn’t shy away from presenting the critical voices within the NFT conversation and gives ample screen time to critics who question the long-term viability and social implications of NFTs. Minted, also known as Minted: The Rise (and Fall?) of the NFT, is directed by the American doc producer / filmmaker Nicholas Bruckman, director of La Americana and Not Going Quietly, and the series “How We Do It” previously. It’s produced by Rahilla Zafar, Shawn Hazelett, Nicholas Bruckman. This doc film initially premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival last year in the Spotlight Documentary section. People’s Television & Sequence Creative debuted Minted direct-to-VOD on January 6th, 2025. For more info visit the film’s official site.
