“Search everywhere! Everywhere! Do you hear me?” Quiver Distr. has debuted the official US trailer a true story WWII thriller titled Irena’s Vow, the latest film from Canadian filmmaker Louise Archambault. This originally premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival last fall, and it also played at the Cinéfest Sudbury Film Festival in Canada, but nowhere in the US. Discover the incredible true story of Irena Gut Opdyke, a Polish nurse who heroically saved Jewish lives during WWII. An inspiring story that needs to be seen to be believed. The film follows the Polish nurse Irene Gut Opdyke who was awarded the “Righteous Among the Nations” medal for her remarkable courage. After being promoted to housekeeper in a Nazi commandant’s house, she decides to shelter 12 Jewish people working there in the basement for years. This stars Sophie Nélisse (from “Yellowjackets,” 47 Meters Down: Uncaged) as Irena, Dougray Scott, Andrzej Seweryn, and Maciek Nawrocki. Yet another harrowing story of survival during the Holocaust. Through the eyes of a strong-willed woman comes the remarkable true story of Irena Gut Opdyke and the triumphs of the human spirit over devastating tragedy. 19-year-old Irena Gut is promoted to housekeeper in the home of a respected Nazi officer when she finds out the Jewish ghetto is about to be liquidated. Determined to help 12 Jewish workers, she decides to shelter them in the safest place she can think of: the basement of the German commandant’s house. Over the next two years, Irena uses her great wit, humor, and courage to hide her friends until the end of the German occupation, concealing them in the midst of countless Nazi parties, a blackmail scheme, even the birth of a child. Her story is one of the most inspiring. Irena’s Vow is directed by the Canadian writer / filmmaker Louise Archambault, director of the films Familia, Gabrielle, And the Birds Rained Down, Merci Pour Tout, and One Summer previously, plus more work on TV series. The screenplay is written by Dan Gordon. Produced by Nicholas Tabarrok, Beata Pisula, Tim Ringuette, Berry Meyerowitz, Jeff Sackman. This initially premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival last year. Quiver will debut Irena’s Vow in select US theaters only on April 14th & 15th, 2024 this spring.
