“The living. The dead. Can they co-exist?” Warner Bros has revealed the second full trailer for the legacy sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (originally known as Beetlejuice 2), reuniting mastermind filmmaker Tim Burton with actor Michael Keaton for a long-awaited follow-up 36 (!!) years later. Keaton lookin’ better than ever! The first Beetlejuice movie opened in 1988 (right before Burton’s Batman in 1989) and ended up becoming a cult hit. The sequel continues the story with the very same family. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia Deetz’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the peculiar model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened (once again). Michael Keaton returns as the miscreant Betelgeuse and Winona Ryder back as Lydia, joined by Jenna Ortega as Astrid, Catherine O’Hara, Monica Bellucci, Justin Theroux, Arthur Conti, Burn Gorman, and Filipe Cates; plus Willem Dafoe as a ghost detective who, in his life, was a B movie action star. While the first trailer was good, this new one is the bees knees. A good mix of footage, kooky shenanigans, ghosts, and “WTF is that?” going on in here. Now you’ve got my attention, Tim Burton! Let’s see what he’s dug up for us.

Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teen daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name 3 times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, also known as Beetlejuice 2, is once again directed by visionary American filmmaker Tim Burton, director of many movies including Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Mars Attacks, Sleepy Hollow, Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd, Alice in Wonderland, Dark Shadows, Frankenweenie, Big Eyes, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and Dumbo previously, plus the “Wednesday” series most recently. The screenplay is written by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar. From a story by Gough & Millar and Seth Grahame-Smith. It’s produced by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Tim Burton, Tommy Harper, Marc Toberoff, David Geffen. This will premiere at the 2024 Venice Film Festival. WB will then debut Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in theaters on September 6th, 2024 coming up soon.
