“It was a movie that was so personal to me when I made it.” As everyone knows, Zack Snyder’s latest movie Rebel Moon – Part One is now playing on Netflix around the world. As part of a promo for the release, the site Letterboxd had a short interview with Zack Snyder (note: it’s ZacK with a K, not Zach with an H) and asked him a series of questions from site members. It’s a fan Q&A that covers his entire filmography, from Army of the Dead to Dawn of the Dead to Man of Steel to Watchmen. So even if you didn’t like Rebel Moon, there’s more in here to explore than that movie. The most interesting question asked is: “What made you decide to become your own Director of Photography?” Ever since Army of the Dead, Snyder has been working as the cinematographer on all of his own movies. Why the switch? His answer is related to Justice League, and it all makes sense with how he explains it. He also reveals that he didn’t really forbid chairs, he just didn’t provide them, to keep his sets fast-paced and fluid. One of the best FS interviews was with Zack back in 2013 for Man of Steel – watch here. Always nice to hear filmmakers discuss their past work – enjoy.
And here’s another long Q&A with Zack Snyder during an event for Justice League – also from YouTube:
You can also watch the teaser trailer for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver right here.
The Scargiver continues the epic saga of Kora and the surviving warriors as they prepare to sacrifice everything, fighting with the brave people of Veldt, to defend a once peaceful village, a homeland for those who have lost their own in the fight against the Motherworld. On the eve of their battle the warriors must face the truths of their own pasts, each revealing why they fight. As the full force of the Realm bears down on the burgeoning rebellion, unbreakable bonds are forged, great heroes emerge, and legends are made…
Rebel Moon is directed by the American producer / filmmaker Zack Snyder, director of the movies Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen, Sucker Punch, Man of Steel, Warner Bros’ Justice League and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and Army of the Dead previously. The screenplay is written by Zack Snyder, Kurt Johnstad, Shay Hatten. It’s produced by Deborah Snyder, Eric Newman, Zack Snyder, Wesley Coller. Netflix will debut Snyder’s Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire streaming on Netflix worldwide starting December 22nd, 2023, and Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver starting April 19th, 2024 next spring. Part One opened with special 70mm showings in theaters before streaming. Check out Rebel Moon: Part One on Netflix now.
