Not a fan. Liam Neeson is a boxing fan with strong feelings about the UFC and Conor McGregor ā and he didnāt hold any of them back.
āUFC, I canāt stand,ā the Taken actor, 70, said in an interview for the Menās Health series āDonāt Read the Comments,ā released on Thursday, February 2. āThat, to me, is like a bar fight. And I know the practitioners all say, āNo, youāre wrong! The moths of training we do!ā Why donāt you just grab a beer bottle and hit the other guy over the head? Thatās the next stage from UFC. I f-āking hate it.ā
He was responding to a fan question who noted Neesonās boxing history and wondered if Neeson enjoyed the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Conor McGregor. The Ireland native was an amateur boxer from ages 9 to 17, but he clearly doesnāt care for either the organization or the athlete. He went on to diss the 34-year-old mixed martial arts champ.
āThat little leprechaun Conor McGregor, oh please. He gives Ireland a bad name,ā Neeson said. āI know heās fit, and I admire him for that. But I canāt take it.ā
The Oscar winner joked about eventually having McGregor confront him. āNext time I come in the Dublin airport, [heāll say] āNeeson, Iāll fāking show you,’ā the Batman Begins star said.
Neeson doesnāt have any plans to get back in the ring. When asked if heād rather return to his boxing gig or his job as a Guinness factory worker, he chose the latter. āIād say the Guinness Factory, actually,ā he revealed. āDriving a forklift truck, yeah. having a couple of beers of a Friday evening after you wrap. Iām sorry, not wrap, quit work. Clock out.ā
The actor is leaning away from action films as well. He said he doesnāt have any interest in making Taken 4 or joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Neeson previously explained that he planned to dial back his stunt-heavy roles. āThereās a couple more Iām going to do this year ā hopefully, COVID allowing us ā thereās a couple in the pipeline and, then I think that will probably be it,ā he told Entertainment Tonight in January 2021.
āI love doing them,ā he added, explaining that the fight scenes have taken a toll on him. āI love beating up guys half my age. ā¦ Iāve just finished one in Australia and I had a fight scene with a kid ā lovely, sweet actor called Taylor ā and halfway through the fight I looked up, I was breathless and it didnāt cost him a cent, and I said, āTaylor, what age are you?ā He said, ā25.ā I said, āThatās the age of my eldest son!’ā
