One of the best anime of the year so far is, in my humble opinion, Kaiju No. 8, based on Naoya Matsumoto‘s manga of the same name. The series feels akin to Pacific Rim as we see a world where kaiju are a part of daily life. This isn’t just a show about badass monster fights (but don’t worry, there are plenty), but about what the world looks like when it has to adjust to a world full of giant monsters.
Read the full synopsis below:
In a world plagued by creatures known as Kaiju, Kafka Hibino aspired to enlist in The Defense Force. He makes a promise to enlist with his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro. Soon, life takes them in separate ways. While employed cleaning up after Kaiju battles, Kafka meets Reno Ichikawa. Reno’s determination to join The Defense Force reawakens Kafka’s promise to join Mina and protect humanity.
We spoke with Kaiju No. 8 voice actors Abigail Blythe (voices Kikoku Shinomiya), Adam McArthur (voices Reno Ichikawa), and Nazeeh Tarsha (voices Kafka Hibino) about badass female characters, kaiju, and more!
New episodes of Kaiju No. 8 premiere on Crunchyroll every Saturday at 7:00 AM PT with English dub episodes launching day and date at 7:30 AM PT.
