The plot unfolds: A middle-aged man arrives for a job interview only to discover his evaluator is Athena—an eerie, tarot-wielding AI. As the surreal assessment unfolds, buried guilt surfaces, forcing him to confront a traumatic past and choose between escape or redemption.
Blending Black Mirror tension with a Kafkaesque edge, The Job explores the collision of artificial intelligence, conscience, and the cost of moving forward.
According to WorldFilmGeek.com, Dawna Lee Heising delivers a standout performance as Athena, the AI program who conducts the interview and ultimately becomes a source of hope for the protagonist, Todd, portrayed by Lejon Stewart. As the interview progresses, Todd faces internal conflicts but eventually realizes that to secure the job, he must first find himself.
“The Job” is a compelling short film that explores the concept of AI in a nuanced manner. Initially, it presents AI in a somewhat questionable light, but it gradually reveals its more positive aspects. Dawna Lee Heising’s performance is once again exceptional, and Lejon Stewart delivers a great portrayal of the job applicant who discovers something far beyond his expectations.
