There’s something very appealing about the anthology format. It’s comforting to be able to experience a film that runs feature-length but still breaks up the proceedings into bite-sized pieces. It’s the best of both worlds. What’s more, if you don’t love one of the segments in an anthology picture, there are several more on the horizon, so all you have to do is wait it out. With the magic of anthology filmmaking in mind, we have a recommendation that comes courtesy of beloved filmmaker Mike Flanagan. We’re talking about the anthology horror picture Ghost Stories.
We know Flanagan is a fan of Ghost Stories because he previously added the film to a Letterboxd list showcasing a number of his favorite horror pictures. Though the flick doesn’t have a great deal of name recognition, Ghost Stories is a diamond in the rough and a film you ought to make haste to experience for yourself.
If you’re itching to take the flick in, we have the goods regarding exactly how to do so. You can presently scope this under-seen effort for free (with ads) over on Tubi.
The setup for Ghost Stories goes as follows:
Professor Phillip Goodman (Andy Nyman) devotes his life to exposing phony psychics and fraudulent supernatural shenanigans. His skepticism soon gets put to the test when he receives news of three chilling and inexplicable cases—disturbing visions in an abandoned asylum, a car accident deep in the woods, and the spirit of an unborn child. Even scarier? Each of the macabre stories seems to have a sinister connection to the professor’s own life.

Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman directed this 2017 anthology effort, which is based on their stage play. Nyman and Dyson each take a writing credit on the project as well.
Now that you know where to watch the Mike Flanagan-endorsed anthology horror Ghost Stories, we hope you’ll check it out. If you’re itching for even more Flanagan in your periphery, his latest, The Life of Chuck, is slated to bow in theaters June 13. Since Dread Central is your one-stop shop for all things horror, you know we’ve already critiqued the film and even featured an interview with co-star Mathew Lillard.
That’s all we’ve got for you, for the time being. Stay tuned to the site for more essential updates, timely recommendations, and more from your favorite genre filmmakers as we discover them.
