Now that Evil Dead Burn is available to watch at home on Premium Digital, horror fans finally have the chance to do what simply wasn’t possible during theatrical screenings: pause, rewind, and hunt for every hidden Easter egg.
That’s exactly what I spent my morning doing.
And I’m excited to report that I finally found Sam Raimi’s legendary 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88.
Better yet, it was hiding in plain sight.
Before the film’s release, director Sébastien Vaniček confirmed during a Reddit AMA that the iconic Delta 88 had made its way into Evil Dead Burn.
“The Oldsmobile, yes! We had it, we hid it in the movie, so you have to keep an eye open to see it.”
That answer sent fans searching. For weeks, nobody could confidently point to where the famous car appeared. Some guessed it was parked somewhere outside the house. Others thought it might flash by in the background during one of the film’s many chaotic set pieces. More recently, fans began zeroing in on a collection of family photographs hanging inside the house, but nobody could prove exactly which frame contained the car.
Now that the movie can be viewed frame by frame, the mystery appears to be solved.
At roughly the one-hour mark, during the sequence in which the grandmother rides her stair lift upstairs, the camera briefly lingers on a wall covered with framed family photographs. Most viewers—including myself during both theatrical viewings—immediately locked onto one image in particular: a photograph of Bruce Campbell’s Ashley J. Williams.
It’s a startling reveal, one that firmly connects Ash to the world of Evil Dead Burn.
But while everyone was staring at Bruce Campbell, another Easter egg was quietly hanging just inches away.
One of the neighboring photographs shows a couple (Ash and Linda?) leaning against the Delta 88. It’s easy to miss because Campbell’s portrait naturally pulls your eye first, but once you know where to look, the famous Oldsmobile is impossible to overlook.
It’s a clever hiding place.
Rather than parking the Delta somewhere outside the cabin as previous films have often done, Vaniček tucked it into the family photo wall alongside Ash himself, rewarding fans willing to slow the movie down and really examine the frame.
For longtime Evil Dead fans, the Delta 88 is far more than just an old car. Ash famously drove the weathered 1973 Oldsmobile to the cabin in The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II, and Raimi has continued sneaking it into his films for decades, from Army of Darkness and Drag Me to Hell to the Spider-Man trilogy and beyond. It’s become one of cinema’s longest-running inside jokes—and now, Evil Dead Burn proudly keeps the tradition alive.
Sometimes the best Easter eggs aren’t hidden in the background.
Sometimes they’re hanging right next to Bruce Campbell’s face.
