Jack Nicholson & Morgan Freeman’s Buddy Comedy Movie To Leave Netflix Shortly

A 2007 road trip comedy starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman will leave Netflix next month. Directed by the late Rob Reiner, the film is a heartwarming story of two terminally ill elderly men, with less than a year to live, who go on an adventure to check off wishes on their bucket lists.

The movie centers on Edward Cole and Carter Chambers, two men who meet at a hospital and are diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. Since they have a limited time to live, Edward encourages Carter to complete his bucket list, and they set off on a globe-trotting adventure. They visit the wonders of the world and take part in adventure sports like skydiving.

During their journey, they confide in each other about their painful lives, strengthening their friendship. Their journey is cut short after Carter refuses to complete his bucket list. The film ends on a poignant and bittersweet note.

Rob Reiner co-produced and directed The Bucket List with a script from Justin Zackham. The film stars Jack Nicholson as Edwards and Morgan Freeman as Carter. The support cast includes Sean Hayes, Rob Morrow, Rowena King, Beverly Todd, and Serena Reeder, among others, in prominent roles.

Released on December 25, 2007, the film was successful commercially. It had a global haul of $175.3 million against a $45 million budget, per Box Office Mojo. Critically, the film received varied responses from critics and audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 40% approval rating from 176 critics, while it has a respectable 77% from over 250,000 users.

The film also featured music composed by Oscar-nominee Marc Shaiman. Alongside the original score, Shaiman also used material from his previous projects. It includes tracks from The Addams Family, City Slickers, his Oscar-nominated track “A Wink and a Smile” from Sleepless in Seattle, and more.
