Netflix has shared a major update about Black Doves Season 2, confirming that production on the next installment of the critically acclaimed spy thriller has finally started in London. In addition, the streamer has also announced the new cast members, who will be joining returning lead stars Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw, and Sarah Lancashire in Season 2.
“In Season 2, Helen is still betraying her nation’s secrets to the covert organisation she serves: the Black Doves. But after the misadventures of last Christmas, and with her husband, Wallace, preparing to become Prime Minister, she is walking a more treacherous line than ever. As Helen’s enigmatic handler, Mrs. Reed is ensnared in a ruthless plot to undermine her position in the Black Doves, and Helen is reunited with her best friend, Sam,” reads the show’s newest logline.
“The once high-end triggerman is now reduced to lonely drinks in Soho bars and low-rate hits. As they search for answers, loyalties are weaponised, trust is shattered, and the fight to protect the people they love could cost everything. With all the explosive wit of Series 1, Helen and Sam’s mission leads them back to old friends and enemies, through the dark decisions and painful sacrifices of their pasts, and right to the heart of the Black Doves.”
Who is joining Netflix’s Black Doves Season 2?

This marks Campbell’s latest show on the streamer, after first starring in the hit legal drama The Lincoln Lawyer. Besides Campbell, Ambika Mod (One Day) has also been cast to play Laila, an acerbic and anarchic Black Doves agent who is sent to help Helen on a mission.
Meanwhile, Babou Ceesay (Alien: Earth) will be playing Mr Conteh, a Black Doves executive with suspicious motivations. Sam Riley (Firebrand) will also be introduced as Patrick, an emissary from a mysterious organisation, who offers Sam a lifeline. Additional casting includes: Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049) as Katia Chernov, Goran Kostic (Ant-Man and The Wasp) as Alexi Chernov, and Samuel Barnett (Lee) as Jerry.
The Black Doves is written, created, and executive-produced by Joe Barton. Executive producers are Knightley, Jane Featherstone, and Chris Fry, with Julian Farino and Kieron Hawkes serving as directors. The show is also produced by Callum Devrell-Cameron. Since its debut, the first season has received a 92% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.
“I couldn’t be more excited to delve back into the world of our murderous little spy family,” Barton said in a statement. “To have so many of our amazing cast returning and also being able to add some of my absolute favourite actors into the mix is such a great joy. Downing Street will never be the same again…”
