Spider-Man 4 has finally achieved its biggest box office record to date. The film has toppled a 10-year-old record held by a Star Wars feature.
According to Deadline, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the highest-grossing movie in domestic box office history with a running total of $936.7 million. Previously, that record belonged to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which had a cumulative total of $936.66 million.
The latest Spider-Man movie received strong reviews on its premiere night. Most critics exclusively praised the emotional portrayals of Tom Holland as Spider-Man and the new entrant, Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey. The film received overwhelmingly positive reviews from fans, praising how Cretton has portrayed Peter Parker as a street-level superhero. Destin Daniel Cretton’s project has a 90% Tomatometer rating and a 97% popcornmeter rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
From historic opening weekend to all-time domestic champion
Released on July 31, 2026, Spider-Man: Brand New Day raked in $360,091,572 in its opening weekend alone, which is 38.4% of its total gross, according to The Numbers. With a production budget of $225,000,000, the Destin Daniel Cretton-directed movie also became the highest-opening movie ever for the director and for Tom Holland and Zendaya.
Before the film officially opened on July 31, it had Thursday-night preview screenings. Spider-Man 4 earned more from those previews than any movie before it, alongside securing the biggest opening day.
The Tom Holland-led film earned more money on a Monday than any other movie in box-office history. It also became the second film to make more than $900 million domestically. With earnings of $2,453,024,076, Spider-Man: Brand New Day ranks third on the all-time top-grossing movies worldwide, right behind Avatar and Avengers: Endgame.
