Band of Jays has never been a band interested in chasing trends. Instead, Perpetual Rewind doubles down on timeless songwriting, blending jangly guitars, layered harmonies, and thoughtful lyrics into a collection of songs that feels familiar in the best possible way. It’s an album that values melody over spectacle, and that approach works more often than not.
The record gets off to a strong start with “Before She Goes To Bed,” setting a relaxed, inviting tone before flowing into the catchy “Every Little Thing.” As the album unfolds, songs like “The Rest Of The Story,” “If We Never Losed Ya,” and “Lunch With The Professionals” keep the momentum going with memorable choruses and polished arrangements. Midway through, “Still Moments” slows things down just enough to let the emotion breathe, while “That Week In Mexico” and “Triangle Eyeball” inject some welcome variety before “Without You” closes the album on a reflective note.

One of the album’s biggest strengths is its consistency. There aren’t many weak moments, and the production is crisp and balanced throughout. Julian Volpe clearly understands how to build songs that are easy to revisit, with enough musical detail to reward repeat listens. The flip side of that consistency is that Perpetual Rewind rarely ventures outside its comfort zone. While every track is well-crafted, the album sometimes plays it a little too safe, leaving listeners wondering what Band of Jays might accomplish by pushing beyond the familiar power-pop formula. A little more experimentation could make future releases even more distinctive.
Still, Perpetual Rewind succeeds at what it sets out to do. It’s a polished, enjoyable collection of melodic pop-rock that showcases a band with a solid musical identity and plenty of potential. If this album is any indication, Band of Jays is on the right path—and with a willingness to stretch creatively, their next release could be their strongest yet.
