Bill Maher and Howie Mandel are both media personalities with careers lasting decades. The two recently met up for a conversation. At the time, while discussing whether or not they really are so different, Mandel ended up saying something that rubbed Maher the wrong way.
Howie Mandel Recently Appeared On Bill Maher’s Club Random Podcast
Since 2003, Maher has been hosting his political talk show, Real Time, for HBO. Prior to this, he hosted the late-night show, Politically Incorrect, from 1993 to 2002.
Back in 2022, Maher also launched a podcast, Club Random, in which he hosts one-on-one interviews with guests. Over the years, he has invited a number of guests on the show, including Quentin Tarantino, Jimmy Kimmel, and William Shatner.

During a recent episode of his podcast, Maher spoke with comedian and television personality Howie Mandel. Over the years, Mandel has been known from a number of projects, including Deal or No Deal and America’s Got Talent.
During the conversation, Maher told Mandel that he should have the “the freedom to say whatever the f*** you want at 70.” As he expressed, he was “set for life” thanks to his extensive career. He continued, “I guess my point is like even if they all canceled you tomorrow, you’re not going to be driving an Uber.”
During The Conversation, Mandel Looked Back At A Time When He Got In Trouble During A Bit From His Own Podcast
Mandel didn’t quite agree, sharing, “Here’s where you and I are different…I really am concerned with how I affect others.” For his part, Maher didn’t agree with this sentiment, sharing, “That’s kind of offensive to me “You’re saying, ‘We’re different. I care about others.’” Mandel expressed, “You don’t care—if you are right—you don’t care if you have offended somebody.”
To this, Maher conceded, “It’s not my aim, but [causing offense] doesn’t supersede being honest.” Mandel continued, “For me, if somebody says they were incredibly offended, their kids were watching, and they don’t want me to represent their product anymore—it’s not about the money or losing the account. It’s more about losing their respect for me or trust in me.”

As Mandel noted, he endured such a loss after repeating an X-rated stand-up bit during his Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcast. He explained, “I lost a fortune in a campaign. I’m not going to mention the company or anything. They walked away from me.”
While insisting that “cancel culture is not dead,” Maher asked, “Why do you worry about these people if they can’t take a joke? They’re not your kind of people.” Maher responded, “But they don’t know it’s a joke. I need to get to everyone and tell them it’s a joke. My feeling inside is I’ve let somebody down. Or I’ve given them an impression that is not true—is so far from who I am.”
