Hosting The View isn’t for the faint of heart. The hosts regularly debate issues that are happening in the U.S. Former MTV star Jenny McCarthy looked back at her time as a co-host and said she’d never go back. Keep reading to find out why.
Jenny McCarthy Reflects On Joining The View
Joy Behar and Elizabeth Hasselbeck both left The View in 2013. ABC tapped Jenny McCarthy to join the talk show to fill the void. She only lasted one season. She was recently a guest on Katie Miller’s podcast. Katie Miller is the wife of Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller. The two ladies spent a lot of time talking about vaccines and the CDC’s recent changes to the vaccination recommendations for children.

Jenny McCarthy’s son was diagnosed with autism as a child and she firmly believes vaccinations contributed to the diagnosis. During the course of the podcast, Katie Miller brought up Jenny McCarthy’s brief time on The View.
“The reason why they wanted to bring me on is because they, quote, said it was too polarizing,” Jenny McCarthy claimed. She added, “They thought it was too polarizing back then, you guys.”
According to The Masked Singer judge, she was brought on for “light” and fluffy” stories about reality TV. But that quickly changed. “Well, that lasted a week. That lasted a whole week,” she said.

She continued, “And back then, I didn’t consider myself to be a political person, which is why I thought I was perfect for the job. After a week, when they said they wanted to get political, I was like, ‘Oh my God, what am I going to do?’”
Jenny McCarthy is much more political now, but back then, she wasn’t prepared to weigh in on the heavy topics.
She Says She Would Never Go Back
The View kicked off Season 29 in September. Ahead of its 30th anniversary, Katie Miller asked Jenny McCarthy is she would return. The former Playboy model shut that idea down quick.
“They’ve asked me to come back for, like, reunion shows. I was like, over my dead body would I ever step foot in that place,” she said.
Jenny McCarthy isn’t the only former host of The View who has spoken negatively about their experience on the talk show. Meghan McCain was a co-host for nearly four years before abruptly leaving. She later called out the show’s “toxic” environment. So, viewers shouldn’t expect to see either of them step in as guest hosts while Alyssa Farah Griffin is on maternity leave.
Sherri Shepherd was a host alongside Jenny McCarthy on The View. She backed up a lot of her former co-host’s comments, noting how the show put Jenny McCarthy in glasses once the topic turned political.
However, Sherri Shepherd looked back kindly on her own time on the show. “Even though it was hard for me, I had the best time on The View. It was one of the best, hardest, most terrifying, most crying-filled experiences, but I loved it, she told Entertainment Weekly.
