Phil Collins is a retired musician whose music has touched a number of people over the years. Recently, he made an emotional share concerning his family. During a recent interview, he talked about a time when his children nearly had to say goodbye to him and the impact it caused.
Phil Collins Recently Opened Up About Being Hospitalized For Months In Switzerland
Collins is a musician and record producer, known as the drummer and later lead vocalist of Genesis. Following this, he pursued a successful solo career. He officially retired from his music career in 2022, giving a final concert with Genesis at London’s O2 Arena.
In his personal life, Collins has five children. These include Joely, Simon, Lily, Nicholas, and Matthew. Recently, the musician made an emotional admission about his family.

Collins has been suffering from declining health in recent years. Last summer, he spent time in the hospital following knee surgery. A few years prior, in April 2024, Collins was also hospitalized in Switzerland. At the time, he had lost consciousness due to alcohol use.
Speaking with The Sunday Times, Collins admitted that the situation looked dire, with the people around him asking what could happen next. As he shared, “There were some decisions to be made about ‘Do we keep Phil on life support?’ kind of thing.”
As the musician explained, “My kidneys were packing up, my organs were just seizing up.” He then revealed, “People were coming to say goodbye.”
Collins Also Highlighted An Emotional Moment Between Him & His Daughter Lily
Speaking with the outlet, Collins then touched on his children coming to see him, though he admitted that he didn’t “remember” his children coming to do as much at the time. He noted, “I didn’t have no idea this was going on. They were all worried that they wouldn’t see me again. It could all have gone so terribly wrong.”
Collins maintained, “I was very lucky to have come out of that.” As the outlet noted, he had been taken to the hospital in late 2023 over alcohol use, was discharged three days before Christmas, and was rushed back into intensive care, causing him to spend seven months in the hospital. Grateful to have a second chance, he shared, “Needless to say, I haven’t had a drink since.”

Collins recalled that his daughter, Lily, was “sitting beside me in tears, saying, ‘I never thought I’d get these moments.’” He continued, “We had an incredible time. I can’t overemphasize how fantastic it was.”
